Get Outside and Do Something!

Spring is here in full swing! Time to put away the summer coats and bring out the summer toys.

It is a beautiful sunny day today, but there is quite a breeze - a great day for flying a kite. Surely, there must be an open area somewhere near by where you can be a kid again. Go ahead, do it! Run down to the store and get a kite and some string.

With spring fever hitting yesterday, I got out my kayak, wiped off the cobwebs, pulled out the mouse nest (eek!) and took a leisurely paddle up a nearby creek - talk about peaceful. I saw two bald eagles (always a thrill!) and more turkeys and deer than I could count.

I know some great places to go kayaking in the neighborhood. One of my favorites is the Wallenpaupack River. Put in at Ledgedale Marina, go under the bridge and just keep going. If you follow the river until it seems you can't go much further as it is getting shallow, cut off on the branch to the left and you will find a great sandbar where you can take a lunch break or just hang out for a while feeling the sand between your toes.

Another nice spot is Prompton State Park off of Route 6 between Waymart and Honesdale. With 1500 acres, 22 miles of trails and a 280 acre lake with 6.25 miles of shoreline, you can have a great day there. Check out the website at: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/prompton/  There is a fun weekend planned at Prompton State Park on June 8th and 9th. You will have the opportunity to try out bikes and kayaks, and really punish yourself with a challenging trail run if you are into running. Check out the Friends of Prompton link for all the details.

Give me a call if you are in the neighborhood and I will let you know if I have any kayaking outings planned. I would love for you to join me. I can also let you know of some other great kayaking routes.

It's a beautiful day - go outside and do something!
