Enjoy the day at Prompton State Park

Prompton State Park

#Promptonstatepark Monday was an absolutely perfect fall day - 70 degrees, bright blue sky and the leaves turning beautiful shades of red, orange and yellow. It was just too nice to spend the day indoors so my husband and I set out to hike and geocache at Prompton State Park. We had been to the park to kayak on the 290 acre lake before, but had never really explored the whole park. We discovered we had really been missing out on this beautiful treasure.

There are 26 miles of well marked hiking and biking trails all around the lake (some of them quite steep!) We definitely put in some miles and worked some muscles as we couldn't pass up the challenge of trying out the steeper trails. Don't worry, if a challenge isn't your thing, there are plenty of other trails.

We came across a stream with beautiful rock formations and mini waterfalls. In some spots the stream was running underground as you could not see any water, but you could hear it and then find it coming out of the ground a little farther downstream. We also saw much evidence that this little stream could turn into a roaring river as we saw the banks torn away about 15 feet high, huge trees uprooted by the water and bridges washed away.

After out hike we went to the main parking area where we saw a disc golf course set up alongside the lake - so pretty. Then we walked across the dam just to say we did! We also came across a "flying field" where remote control airplane enthusiasts can fly their planes.

This is a great park, why not pack a picnic lunch and head out for the day!
